Besides designing blogs and websites and blogging, I work full time at a book publishing company. Yesterday, I saw a catalog page layout for one of the book publishers of our book distributor who happens to share the same office space as we do. I noticed one of the books for the Fall 2008 schedule was “Heath Ledger: Hollywood’s Dark Star” pending publication by Plexus Publishing in August 2008. I looked up the book on Amazon and noticed that there are also 2 other books pending about Heath Ledger later this year. Some weeks back I read that Ledger’s death has increased interest and anticipation for Batman: The Dark Night do out later this year. Then I thought about the book I recently read titled The Man Who Invented Hudson which reveals how much of a punk James Dean really was and which made me think about how legends are created. I wonder then, with Ledger’s death, do we have a new young legend about to be born? If Ledger is to go down in history as a legend, will it be in his own right?

I was perusing the net looking for interesting movie theaters as research for a movie theater I’d like to open up some day. After just reading and writing about the article on $35 Movie Tickets, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Sundance has expanded and now have their own movie theaters, Sundance Cinemas, for showing films of all varieties on a regular basis rather than during its famous festival in January.

Me, no. Maybe others might. Village Road Show, Ltd and a couple other companies are partnering to bring “luxury” to the movie theater experience at Village Road Show Gold Class Cinemas throughout the US.

Every week or so I check Netflix’s “Browse Instant” (previously titled “Watch it Now”) page for new additions to their library of free (for members) movies to watch instantly online. When this feature was new the selection of films to watch were quite sad and insulting since most were B-movies or just plain crap with the occasional good classic or surprisingly good mainstream or independent film thrown in. Now, these days, Netflix’s selection of instant movies to watch online are quite good. Continue reading
Back in the early 1990s, there was something potentially film historic about Al Pacino and Robert De Niro finally appearing in a movie together since Godfather II in which they didn’t even share screen space. Michael Mann’s 1995 Heat was somewhat satiating save for the cop out ending. But Righteous Kill starring the two once-upon-a-time-blockbuster-movie-megastars scheduled for release on September 12th this year may be too little too late especially with a director (John Avnet) not as skilled as Mann despite the writing credit of Russell Gewirtz who penned the surprisingly exceptional Inside Man.
