#28 : AFI’s 10 Top 10: Animated, Fantasy and Gangster
On June 17, 2008 (on CBS) AFI will again air its AFI’s 100 Years…. series announcing the top 100 films. Instead of clumping all movies for all genres together, this time around AFI is choosing the top 10 movies of 10 major genres. Exciting! This could not be more perfect for Film Tops! So, in the next three weeks Film Tops “Lists” will feature and list 3 genres (4 in the last week) and the 50 nominated films per genre and give list what Film Tops thinks should win the nominations in each category and why.
So, without further ado….
ANIMATED
I never much cared for animated films until I watched Shrek. I didn’t grow up loving Bugs Bunny and other such animations. But, I have to say Pixar animation films are a different breed. Although I still don’t love animation, I do love to see a good one when one comes out and completely respect and admire animators.

CINDERELLA
Disney, 1950 - 13
CORPSE BRIDE
Warner Bros., 2005
Tim Burton has such a singular view of artistic expression and Corpse Bride is no exception. The fact that it is done in claymation makes the macabre plot even that much more convincing. - 14
DUMBO
Disney, 1941 - 15
FANTASIA
Disney, 1940 - 16
FINDING NEMO
Disney/Pixar, 2003
Except for the humans, all the animation in Nemo was quite amazing and fun to watch. The humans were a bit too strange looking. Nonetheless, the story was strong and moving enough to keep my attention and exceed expectation. - 17
HAPPY FEET

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME
Disney, 1996 - 19

Just like The Incredibles, Shrek was a film I never expected to like so much. Michael Meyers is always great to watch, and now listen to in animation. The story was strong, the writing was smart, adult and playful. Love it! - 42
