Fur, a Film About Photographing Freaks

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Well, it’s not really a film about photographing freaks. Fur chronicles the life of the famous photographer, Diane Arbus who challenged conventional notions of beauty and ugliness in the 1950s. She photographed people on the fringes of society such as the “Jewish Giant”. Fur stars Nicole Kidman as Arbus and Robert Downey Jr. as Lionel, the muse who inspires Arbus to become more than just another 1950s housewife.

The trailer inspired me to see this film coming soon to theaters in November. There’s just something about Nicole Kidman. Oh, yes, she’s an exceptional actress. If you’ve seen her in To Die For, The Hours and The Others, you’ll know what I mean. Elegant, powerful, endearing, and enigmatic. The stuff of old Hollywood, but with much better acting. Less overly dramatic anyway. I believe this film could mean another Oscar nod for Kidman, but who cares. The film looks intriguing and I love me a bio pic. This looks Walk the Line calibur…perhaps even better. We’ll see. Film opens November 10th.
