Jackman Looks for Immortality in The Fountain
Tuesday, October 24th, 2006
Hugh Jackman plays a 16th century conquistador, a modern-day Scientist and a 26th century astronaught in The Fountain, a film about a man trying to save his dying wife, Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Constant Gardener) in his search for the Fountain of Youth. I have to say, the trailer makes the film seem quite intriguing but the acting or perhaps the writing seems questionable. Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) directs this fantastic tale which seems more interesting in the past bits and the future bits and heavy handed in the present bits. But, trailers, like commercials in general, can often be misleading. So, I might give this film a shot and see it when it opens in theaters November 22nd.
It’s strange to see Jackman de-clawed and not bulging post X-Men. He hasn’t made many good film choices outside of X-Men. Van Helsing? Swordfish? Though Woody Allen’s Scoop seem’s a good choice. And The Prestige with Christian Bale seems interesting too. Nonetheless, The Fountain promises to be at least intriguing.
