Thor, Fun and Surprisingly Funny

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.
I confess, the main reason I wanted to see Thor was for eye candy. Chris Hemsworth is just delicious. The thing is, I’ve reluctantly accepted the fact that summer movies, or movies of any season, have lost quality and distinctiveness within the last few years. Summer movies have especially been painfully disappointing at times. Wolverine ring a bell? With that said, I figure I’ll take reviews with a grain of salt and just see as many movies this summer as time permits ’cause it’s something I obviously love to do. But, I will have little or no expectations and seek pure entertainment short of bad acting. I can’t stand many faults in the overall production of a film, but bad acting, like bad singing, or spoilt milk make me nauseous. Thor, fortunately wasn’t nauseating in any respect and is a surprisingly funny, well acted, smartly scripted comic to film Marvel adaptation.
And also surprising was the Hemsworth, who’s sure to be the new “it” hunk, has both talent and physical deliciousness. Go figure, and thank-bloody-goodness! I also very much appreciated how both the “fantastic realm of Asgard” and earth naturally co-existed on screen. I thought they might have spent too much time on earth, which, hello, been here, still here. I like visiting other worlds…on screen. So glad there was a good balance of human and fantastic scenes so it didn’t just feel like another comic book adaptation having to stretch the imagination so hard, it’s too fantastic and not relatable. Thos is a great summer movie. A definite, must-see!
