X-Men : The Last Stand

X-Men: The Last Stand came out on DVD this week and is selling like hot cakes. Some are whining that the DVD release should have been a two-discer instead of one, but I’ve never much cared for superfluous info. What good is a deleted scene, really? Anyway, I saw X-Men in the theaters and it was great. Granted, it was obviously not as good as it could have been if Bryan Singer (the director of the original two) directed it. It occasionally suffered from sequelitis. The symptoms: bad one-liners, excessive shit blowing up needless, sappy love scenes and/or gratuitous heterosex. X3 had only a couple of bad one-liners and a couple pieces of sap, so don’t worry!
Anyway, Singer turned down doing X-Men 3 to do Superman Returns, which was sort of a good thing since I thought Superman Returns was pretty good considering I don’t particularly gave a toss about Superman in general. I never thought he was one of the more interesting comic characters. X-Men, on the other hand, are all so interesting. Plus they seem more relatable to me. Nonetheless, I think Brett Ratner did a good job with the third and final installment of the X-Men trilogy. Plus, it wouldn’t have mattered who directed it, I woud have seen Wolverine in anything…yummy! I can’t wait until Jackman’s Wolverine spinoff. There may be a Magnito spinoff as well I believe.
So in The Last Stand, it’s the mutants against the humans in a colossal show down where Magnito at one point uses the Golden Gate Bridge to take himself and his minions to Alcatraz Island where the battle is fought. Basically the humans were holding captive a mutant who could cure any other mutant of his or her power. They used this mutant to create “medicine” to cure mutants. Sort of like those idiots who think they can “cure gay”. Fools! Anyway, there are some good twists, three major surprises and alot of eye candy by way of Jackman hunky and sweaty in his white tank. Mmmmmmmm… Anyway, watch after the credits for an interesting surprise that will have you smiling yet scratching your head! Rent it! Buy it! Love it!
