Talk To Me, great biopic
Sunday, December 9th, 2007
The story of Washington D.C. radio personality Ralph “Petey” Greene (Don Cheadle), an ex-con who became a popular talk show host and community activist in the 1960s with the help of his producer and friend Dewey Hughes (Chiwetel Eljifor).
I really enjoy watching Don Cheadle. He’s got this great sincerity and relatability on screen that few actors have. Chiwetel Eljifor, besides being a hottie, is a another great actor who’s got great presence on screen. Cheadle’s performance as Ralph Waldo ‘Petey’ Greene, an ex-con who became a popular talk show host and community activist in the 1960s, and Chiwetel’s performance as Greene’s manager and friend were stellar and carried the film.
Sometimes bipoics of lesser known people can suffer from cheesyness or are just lackluster because of bad directing or writing. Talk to Me had both strong directing and writing. But, it’s a character film as much as it is a biopic. I do love a good biopic and this one was great. Overall, Talk to Me is totally worth renting. A great Friday or Saturday night film.
