Talladega Nights
Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007So, Talladega Nights was actually funny. There’s always something funny about hicks and their love affair with all things tacky. Will Ferrell and John C Reiley have great onscreen chemistry. The writing and directing are solid. The premise: Rocky Bobby (Ferrell) is the #1 race car driver in the country until a french race car driver becomes #1, leaving Ricky Bobby as a has been until he decides to reclaim his thrown. Simple plot, funny movie. In one scene, after Ricky Bobby crashes his car in a race, traumatized he runs around the race track as if on fire, but there are no flames. A minute later he’s still running around and now stripped to his underwear trying to put out the invisible fire. This is classic Will Ferrel. Ricky Bobby’s relationships with his trashy wise, delinquent children and even dumber best friend (Reiley) make for some hi-lariious scenes that are never really over the top or gimmicky. Probably ’cause the writing’s Austin Powers caliber. Rent it!
