The Break-Up’s a solid film
Saturday, January 20th, 2007The Break-Up is actually a good movie. I was expecting mediocre acting and directing and a predictable story line. Instead, both Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Anniston and the supporting cast were all above average, the directing was solid and the storyline believable and somewhat unpredictable (though not completely).
The premise: Boy and Girl meet, fall in love, by a condo together. Then girl realizes boy is an inconsiderate ass (and man-child), so girl reluctantly dumps boy. But boy nor girl want to move out of the condo so they each try to drive the other out before finally selling reluctantly. Aniston and Vaughn worked well together. A believable couple on and off screen. Vaughn plays the fool, the inconsiderate ass in most of his films. But in The Break-Up he actually does a little drama, and convincingly. As for Aniston, I am not surprised by her solid acting. I saw her in The Good Girl oppositeJake Gyllenhaal some time ago and thought she might be the one Friend that would succeed on the big screen Her great performance in Friends with Moneyconfirmed that. Anyway, Jason Bateman, Joey Lauren Adams, and Jon Favreau were all great as well.
The Break-Up is a just a solid, dramatic, funny and engaging film about the everyday occurence of breaking up with someone. We can all relate. Good movie. Ren it!
